THE PROLOGUE OBSTETRIC TEAM

You receiving only the absolute best care during your pregnancy is the driving force behind why we set up Prologue in the way we have. You will be given a style of curated attention that we would want for our family members. For you, we will accept nothing but the highest standards, the most attentive care and we will work only with those who we have assessed to be at the very top of their game.

Now, let us tell you some more about our special team.

MEET THE PROLOGUE TEAM

  • During your pregnancy journey we will get to know each other and develop a trust that not only isn’t possible in the public system but will actually have a very real and positive impact on your pregnancy experience and outcome. It’s very important to me that during our time together you feel comfortable sharing your feelings, fears, concerns and desires and understand that you will not be judged.

Perhaps a good way of getting things started is by me telling you a bit about my background. I grew up in the outer suburbs of Melbourne and went on to complete a science degree at The University of Melbourne. I hadn’t always intended on being a doctor and certainly wasn’t pushed by my non-medical parents. I then moved to Sydney and completed my medical degree at The University of Sydney. Following this, I returned to Melbourne where I started to specialise in Emergency Medicine but then realised Obstetrics and Gynaecology was the perfect specialty for me. I undertook most of my specialty training at Monash Medical Centre and then moved back to Sydney to do a fellowship in Obstetrics at The Royal Prince Alfred Hospital. During this time I completed a Masters in Reproductive Medicine and I am also a fertility specialist affiliated with Monash IVF. In 2018 I started my private practice…..now known as Prologue….and I love it!

Obstetrics is one of the few remaining specialties where there is still an element of creativity involved. It is also one where having good clinical skills, common sense and emotional intelligence makes a very real difference to outcomes. I love that I have the opportunity to curate an exceptional team to be available to you and create a space and opportunities to enhance your pregnancy journey. I pay attention to detail and will never settle for anything but the best, as that is what you deserve as a patient of Prologue!

  • Comprehensive pregnancy care must involve the insights and support of a midwife. We have headhunted and begged one of the very best to join Prologue so we can provide you with the ultimate level of care. Polly will be having a crucial influence not only during your pregnancy journey but just as importantly, will be there to support you as you are adjusting to being a parent of a new baby. Your sessions with her are not instead of but rather in addition to your consultations with your Obstetrician and will be at no out-of-pocket cost to you.

Polly is not new to being involved in the delivery of babies nor to personally understanding the challenges of pregnancy and parenthood. Originally from rural NSW, Polly is now well settled in Sydney and has three young children of her own. You will meet with Polly several times throughout your pregnancy where she will workshop topics such as weight gain in pregnancy, diet in pregnancy, exercise in pregnancy and community resources. Polly is also very familiar with the various antenatal classes that are on offer and can help you choose the one that will suit you best. What makes Polly a particularly unique and brilliant resource for you is that she currently works as a midwife on the delivery suite at the Mater Hospital. Guided by this first hand experience, Polly is in a great position to be able to help you prepare for your birth experience at the hospital of your choice.

Adjusting to being a parent of a new baby can be tough and Polly has your back! She will make sure you have the support and flexibility that is needed to navigate the first few months of parenthood. You will sit down with Polly within the first couple of weeks of having your baby to make sure you are on track and stay that way.  She is particularly passionate about supporting you emotionally and caring for your mental health. She will also offer you lactation support, meaning if you choose to breastfeed, you will have her ongoing support, tips and tricks for as long as you need it.

  • Without doubt the best thing to ever come out of Chile, Vivi and her special style of brilliance provide a guiding influence at Prologue. She is also crucial in delivering training and support services to all of our Prologue staff. This means we are always working well together, feel valued and respected at our workplace and you are being invited into a happy, dynamic and caring environment.

Originally from a hotel background, Vivi understands the value of a curated experience and is here to make sure your particular needs are taken care of by the Prologue team. She is particularly skilled at coming up with solutions to even the most complex issues and if needed will work with you to make sure you are feeling heard, understood and happy.

  • Mariam will be the one to greet you at your appointments and is one of our Client Experience Managers. Mariam is also Prologue’s Social Media Manager. She is motivated and emotionally intelligent and is here to add her brand of specialness to your experience with us. Through our social media channels, Mariam also spreads the word about what Prologue offers, what we are creating, who we are collaborating with and what we like!

  • The day of your delivery is a special one and we will not be inviting just anyone to be a part of it. Damien is a brilliant doctor, a very experienced Obstetric Anaesthetist as well as an internationally regarded Pain Specialist. He is also a very valued member of the Prologue Team.

Damien is an expert at taking and keeping your pain away and also happens to be particularly talented at making you feel confident, relaxed and safe. If you’re having an elective caesarean, then it is most likely going to be Damien who will be taking care of you from an anaesthetic point of view. If you’re aiming for a vaginal delivery, there is a high chance Damien will also be the one on standby should you choose to have an epidural. He will be contactable by you prior and after your procedure and welcomes any questions. For those having a caesarean, Damien also happens to be a master of the camera meaning, with your permission, he will be able to capture some awesome shots of your baby being delivered. Damien will oversee your post operative pain management, making sure your stay in hospital is comfortable and any side effects from the pain medicines are minimised.

THE ROOMS

The Prologue North and South Consulting rooms on Sydney’s Macquarie St are our flagship offices and where Prologue is based. BMA House won many architecture awards and was a landmark construction for Sydney back in 1929. In 2019, Justin renovated and fitted out the Northern Consulting Rooms with his brother (who is a Surgical Assistant). In 2022, Prologue was able to acquire what is now the Southern Consulting Rooms and again under Justin’s watchful eye, these underwent a major renovation and fitout to be in keeping with the style and attention to detail for which Prologue is renowned.

As the home of Prologue, these offices have been thoughtfully curated to create an ambiance that is unique and inspires both our clients and staff alike. Not overly clinical, they are a place where you can relax and be cared for.

The Prologue Obstetric team consults here from Monday to Friday. On Thursdays we also consult out of our office in Bondi Junction.
