fERTILITY WITH PROLOGUE
The reasons why people seek out the services of a specialist fertility team are varied but common to them all is that a patient’s experience, and often the outcome, is directly dependent upon the relationship they build with those professionals that are caring for them.
Our role in your fertility experience is to provide educated, experienced and evidence based options for you to consider. We will work with you and your team, and together we can navigate through what can often be a very foreign and sometimes complex journey. We have developed an intimate knowledge of the fertility specialty. We are aware and have appraised all the most up to date options in treatment and are familiar with the pros and cons of each one. We bring common sense and a great willingness to listen to what is important to you and your team, so together we can formulate a fertility treatment plan that best suits you. As a group we place a high value on psychology and believe it is absolutely critical that we are in touch with HOW you want to do things rather than only focusing on the end point, as often these things are equally important.
The Prologue team has an affiliation with Monash IVF, which is one of the most respected fertility clinics in Sydney. Should our plan involve fertility treatment, we will work closely with the nursing and embryology team at Monash IVF, to bring you the best possible science and experience.
At Prologue, we believe every woman should be aware of the factors that affect her fertility and it’s not as simple as you may think. A woman’s fertility is not just dependent on how many eggs she has, but even more so on the quality of those eggs. There is no one accurate fertility test or way for assessing egg quality. By far the most reliable predictor of how well an egg will perform in going on to create a pregnancy, is the age of the woman it belongs to. Therefore, correctly assessing how “fertile” you are is difficult and the older you are, the more caution that needs to be taken when basing any lifestyle choice on attempting to do so.
If you’re concerned about your fertility, or trying to work out when you will fit starting a family into the timeline of your busy and complex life, then come and chat with us at Prologue! Together we can look at how we might assess your fertility using various fertility tests and factors such as the AMH test, your antral follicle count and your age. Based on these things, we can look at the best available data to predict your chances of conceiving a pregnancy now and how this may change with time. We can then discuss your options and empower you with the knowledge to make decisions that will be a fit best for you now, and in the future.
FEMALE FERTILITY CHECK
At Prologue, we believe that if you have an issue that is important enough to concern you, then it is certainly important enough for our time and attention.
Having trouble becoming pregnant can often leave a couple feeling frustrated, vulnerable, fearful and isolated. As your fertility specialists, we will use a sensitive, inclusive and methodical approach, so together, we can first of all assess the issue and then formulate a management plan.
Often patients are unsure about when they should be seeking the service of a specialist fertility team. Your fertility is an extremely important and too often neglected topic and therefore we would be happy to talk to you about any aspect of your fertility, at any time. However, if you are a female and over the age of 35, we do suggest making an appointment to see us if you haven’t achieved a pregnancy after 6 months of trying. If you are 35 or younger, we recommend coming to see us if you have issues with your period or you’ve been trying to conceive for 12 months.
The most common cause of infertility is issues with ovulation or egg quality. However, a male factor such as a low number or abnormal function of sperm, is also a frequent issue faced by a high number of couples who are not conceiving naturally. For a smaller percentage of couples trying to conceive, all tests will be normal and they will have what is known as “unexplained” infertility. The great news is there are management options for almost all causes of infertility.
During your first consultation with the Prologue team, we will have the opportunity to hear your story and ask some questions in response to it. We will review or chase down any test results or treatments that you have had in the past, then discuss with you options for further investigation and potential management. This management does not always mean having IVF but will always be a plan that you understand, can afford and fits with your instincts and priorities.
Don’t sit at home worrying alone. Come and see us at Prologue so we can work on it together.
