COMPLETE OBSTETRIC SUPPORT

At Prologue, we love finding and then collaborating with talent! In order to be able to offer you a holistic experience yet be able to maintain control over the quality of care you receive, we have nurtured a close working relationship with our complete support partners.

Should your pregnancy journey involve a diagnosis of gestational diabetes we do not want that to be at the expense of the high standard of care and attention we promise all of our patients at Prologue. Therefore, we call upon two exceptionally qualified and clever clinicians to make sure you are supported and reassured and your blood sugars are carefully monitored and controlled. That way, we know that you and your baby will have the healthy outcome we aim for.

GESTATIONAL DIABETES

  • Diabetes Educator

Amanda is a highly regarded diabetes educator specialising in diabetes in pregnancy and a long time friend of Prologue. She is the current sitting Vice President of the Australian Diabetes Educator Association. Amanda is also a trained midwife and so understands the pressures of pregnancy and how your diabetes test fits in with the bigger picture. Should you be diagnosed with gestational diabetes, we will arrange for you to sit down with Amanda so together you can formulate a plan to closely monitor your blood sugar levels. She will also educate and help you introduce some lifestyle and diet changes to give you the best chance of avoiding the need to start insulin.

  • Endocrinologist and Obstetric Physician

Should your blood sugars not adequately respond to diet and lifestyle changes, we may have the need to include Endocrinologist Dr Amanda Beech into our team. Amanda is also an Obstetric Physician and has done a breadth of training in how to best care for any pregnancy related medical issue.

She will discuss your medical options in blood sugar management (it doesn’t always mean needles). Just as importantly, Amanda will follow you up after you have had your baby to make sure everything has been carefully considered and controlled, to optimise your long term health and that of any future pregnancy.

At Prologue, we are keen to look after you in a way that is mindful, non judgemental and respectful of your history, values and priorities. For many, the journey to parenthood and the initial adjustment to it, can present challenges, exacerbate anxieties or current coping mechanisms. Prologue is committed to providing you with a style of care that takes all of this into consideration and in certain situations being open to including the skills of a psychologist can be really useful.

Dr Melanie Brookes is a clinical psychologist who has a special interest and experience in perinatal mental health, anxiety and depression.

She often works closely with our practice to provide an even deeper level of insight and support to the mental health of our patients. This translates into real improvements not only to the mental health of our obstetric patients but also often to those around them, promoting a healthy and supportive family dynamic. Melanie operates a private practice based close to our CBD office.

PERINATAL PSYCHOLOGIST

SPECIALIST WOMEN’S PHYSIOTHERAPIST

Your body is about to give you a baby and we want to make sure we are paying it our thanks by taking brilliant care of it. Pregnancy, birth and motherhood places massive and multilayered demands on your body and with competing life loads it can often be too easy to just put up with the aches, pains, injuries, tiredness and deconditioning that can come with that.

The expert teams at both Women In Focus and The Studio form a really important part of the multidisciplinary care that Prologue can curate for you. Both teams are specialists in pregnancy related physiotherapy and postpartum recovery and are absolute leaders in their field. They are trained to thoroughly assess any specific issues such as back, rib or pelvic pain, abdominal separation and pelvic floor function and will develop with you a comprehensive, evidence based and achievable plan to address them. They also offer a personalised birth preparation program.

For those that are keen to engage in pregnancy specific, home based physical activity, Prologue has a close affiliation with The Empowered Motherhood Program. This is a brilliant web based service created by two female physiotherapists. It provides pregnant women with a week by week education and exercise program that they can utilise at their own pace. It has been designed to promote safe and functionally appropriate exercise during pregnancy and the months that follow delivery.
